Small FYI: Facebook Like button
Wanted to start a new series of videos where I riff on small things but allows me to blog more often, here is the 1st! The changing from Like from “become a fan” is a very interesting play as I discuss here. What are your 2 cents?

I think it’s a bold move that facebook took. I like it. The “like” button in an easy way for people to click on without feeling obligated.

I agree with the less commited aspect of it, but what if you’re truly a FAN of something? Maybe we need a comprimise?

derrickbradley answered:
I don’t like them, at least, not yet. Feels disingenuous. I don’t need weak ties on Facebook, I need strong ones.

chriskalani answered:
Well, you kind of changed my mind about it actually.

I prefer “connect with me” to “become a fan” or “follow me.” Connecting is about community building and the other two feel arrogant to me.

I think that Liking instead of Becoming a Fan is a BAD IDEA.

I agree that the “small shift” has a very big impact…But I wonder if this impact is going to mean more blatant adverts / annoying people?

How come your facebook account still says “Become a Fan” on my computer though? yfrog.com/jypictu…

liadarivajewelry answered:
I agree with you Gary, it’s all in the wording and how something is communicated that determines whether somebody will accept it or not.

I think you’re absolutely right. The meaning behind those two words, like and fan, are very different and I think it will have a big impact.

Hey Gary, please do videos more often. I don’t care if it’s 10 seconds. Your insight is so needed.

I don’t like it bc it’s confusing with Like for an item posted by a friend appearing in the newsfeed.
-
lukeirvin answered:
I really like this move. It makes much more sense and I think it will capture a lot of people’s attention to Fan pages, may even start ideas
